Here at Hiking Abroad you will find yourself perfectly located in a landscape that is as diverse in its natural beauty as it is in its rich cultural history. We are based in the historic city of Ontinyent where evidence of human settlement can be traced back as far as the Neolithic period. Here, the Middle ages were defined by a coexistence of Muslim and Christian heritage that has left structural remains to this day. This city with a population of less than 36,000 people has a more recent history in the trade and fabrication of brandy, cloth, wine, almonds and olive oil.

 The area is often referred to as  "The Tuscany of Valencia" and from our valley position at approximately 350 metres elevation you can view wineries stretching as far west as the eye can see.  The surrounding mountains that often peak at above 1,000 metres deliver on every imaginable variety of walking routes. They take in quaint villages, natural springs, waterfalls and bathing pools interspersed with fascinating ruins and the area hosts a vast array of flora and fauna including eagles, vultures. owls, wild boar, deer and bats.
